“The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” – Proverbs 20:7
I’m a proud father of 3 beautiful children attending YRDSB school. As a parent, it is important for me to teach my children about the value of integrity, giving back, and perseverance. But most importantly, I want to ensure that my children and your children receive the best quality in their public school education.
Many young parents in our community have shared with me that our daily routine has taken away precious time to spend with their children. These were missed valuable moments to help our children with their homework; there are many students that do not receive sufficient help in their academic work and have started to fall behind in their learning.
This is why I strongly believe that a Tutoring Support program through a partnership with local community groups is the way to help the parents unload some pressure and assure that our children can receive adequate help in their academic learning. It will turn academic struggle into academic success!
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
You don’t need to be a teacher to be called an educator. A parent is the best educator for their own children. Every day, I find opportunities to teach or share with my children all kinds of subjects. A simple walk in our neighborhood provides the best opportunity to teach them about road safety and learn about street names. My children never stopped asking me questions. Luckily, daddy has Google, Siri, and Alexa on my side to help me find answers for them!
Education starts in the family and parents should try not to leave this precious opportunity to school teachers only. I believe parents at YRDSB should work together with our public school educators. Give them support and encouragement. So they can focus on what they do best – academic teaching. Therefore, it is important to keep the communication going through a monthly Parent and Family Engagement Meeting to listen and discuss your concerns about your children’s learning. Our school system can only get better with active parent involvement!
“You become what you think about!” – Earl Nightingale
I believe a true leader is someone who can inspire others. This person is willing to invest time and effort in people. Parents are leaders of their own households. We, as parents, are the inspirers to our children. We want to see the best in them and help them achieve their dream. We want them to become what they think about!
Our family always enjoys going to the Markham Library to find interesting books. To ensure that my children enjoy reading hard-copy books, I like to help them select audiobooks so they can listen and read along with the narrator. There are occasions when I had to read story books to my children. Now, my children love storybooks more than iPad! I’m glad to share that I have successfully inspired my children to enjoy reading storybooks!
